Hanoi boosts 3B cow raising co-operation with Wallonia region of Belgium

VOV.VN - A delegation focused on investment, trade, and tourism promotion in Hanoi led by Nguyen Manh Quyen, vice chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, paid a working visit to Belgimex cattle breeding company (GA Belgimex) in the Belgian region of Wallonia.

The company specialises in providing 3B cow breed (Blanc Blue Belgium), also known as "muscle" breed.

During the course of the meeting with Deputy Governor cum Minister of Economy, Foreign Trade and Agriculture of Wallonia Willy Borus, Quyen expressed his great appreciation for the co-operation and support of Belgimex Company given to Hanoi over the past decade. Indeed, this support has helped to develop high-yielding 3B cows, thereby bringing high economic profits to farmers.

Visiting the 3B cow farm of Belgimex Company, Quyen expressed his positive view of the management and care of "muscular" cows weighing more than 1,000 kg to ensure a high-quality breed provided to Belgian breeders and those based in many other foreign countries.

The municipal leader said he hopes that Belgimex Company will continue to support the Vietnamese capital in transferring advanced technology to develop 3B cows, as well as other provinces throughout the country.

At the cow farm representatives of Hanoi Cattle Breeding Joint Stock Company (HLBC) and representatives of Belgimex Company signed a memorandum of agreement to continue co-operation in completing the process of transferring 3B cow breed to Vietnam, as well as importing cow embryos. This will be done in order to continue to improve the cow herd of Hanoi and other provinces of the Red River Delta.

Minister Borus outlined his great appreciation for the co-operation in 3B cow breeding technology transfer between Belgium and Vietnam, especially when both nations became strategic partners in agriculture back in 2018.

The Belgian Minister affirmed that with its strength in high-tech agriculture, the Wallonia region is ready to step up linkages with Vietnam in the development of other plant varieties and livestock, as well as technology transfer in this regard.

Christophe Cailteux, representative of GA Belgimex, said that the European leads the world in beef, pig, and sheep breeds, with a high proportion of high-quality meat. Indeed, Belgimex specialises in the research and development of 3B and boasts several strengths in the industry. Through these, Belgimex is willing to expand ties with HLBC company as a means of developing a high-tech 3B cow raising model.

According to Bui Dai Phong, chairman of the Board of Directors and general director of HLBC, more than 30,000 Vietnamese farmers have so far participated in the 3B cow breeding scheme, with over 260,000 F1 calves being developed.

Many farmers have become billionaires after raising this breed because of its high economic efficiency. Each of these "muscular" cows can gain weight up to two kg of weight per day, with the percentage of meat accounting for 75%. Currently, in Vietnam there are 3B high yielding cow farms with a scale of 100 to 200 cows, he added.
