Government chief calls for stronger price stabilisation efforts

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a dispatch to various ministers, heads of ministry-level agencies, and chairmen of the People’s Committees of centrally-run provinces and cities on July 31, asking for stricter management of prices of essential goods and services.

They were also requested to continue carrying out directions made by the head of the Price Management Steering Committee. This includes keeping a close eye on market developments, as well as giving timely measures to ensure domestic supply-demand balance, stabilise prices, and avoid a shortage of goods and speculation that could lead to unreasonable price increases.

The Minister of Transport was also requested to work alongside leaders of localities to consider an adjustments to prices of goods and services which are directly affected by petrol price increases, such as transport and logistics.

The PM asked for the control of the price application of businesses to provide suitable management and stabilisation solutions, along with strengthening inspection activities over the implementation of the law on prices and related regulations, along with the strict settlement of any violations.

Regarding the prices of food and foodstuff, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development was directed to co-ordinate with the Minister of Industry and Trade in order to evaluate the production and regulation of goods for domestic consumption among regions and localities. This is in addition to the demand for export as a means of stabilising market prices.

The Vietnamese cabinet leader requested the re-assessment of the pork distribution system to make it more simple and effective, thereby ensuring reasonable prices.

With regard to the prices of construction materials, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, the Minister of Construction, and leaders of localities were also urged to efficiently manage the supply and settlement of goods speculation. In line with this, the Ministry of Construction was directed to update the prices of construction materials regularly and then announce the prices in a shorter period of time.

Leaders of localities must detect any abuse of peak tourism occasions and petrol price fluctuations to ensure no unreasonable increases in travel and accommodation service prices.

The Vietnamese Government leader also gave directions regarding the management over the price of textbooks, as well as the flexible use of the petrol price stabilisation  fund to enable the reasonable management of domestic petrol prices.

The Ministry of Finance has duly been assigned to work with relevant ministries and agencies to give market price forecasts and update the detail price management scenarios for the rest of the year. This will help the Government and the PM to seek measures aimed at fulfilling the goal of keeping this year’s inflation rate at 4%.
