Farm exports rise 7.5% in 7 months, on track for annual target
VOV.VN - Vietnam's agro-forestry-fishery exports hit an estimated US$42.8 billion in the first seven months of 2026, up 7.5% year on year, keeping the sector on track toward its full-year export target of US$74 billion.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MOAE), exports in July alone were estimated at US$6.67 billion, rising 1.3% from June and 11.9% compared with the same month last year.
Agricultural products were the largest hard currency earner, generating nearly US$22.2 billion, an increase of 2.4% from the same period last year. Fishery exports rose 12.7% to US$6.85 billion, while forestry exports climbed 5.8% to US$10.96 billion.
China was Vietnam's largest export market, accounting for 21.9% of total export value, followed by the United States with 19% and Japan with 6.8%.
Exports to China surged 24.4% in the January-July period, while shipments to Japan increased 3.9%. Exports to the United States, however, declined 1.6% compared with the same period last year.
The MOAE said the government recently decided to raise the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector's full-year growth target from 3.7% to 4%.
To achieve the revised goal, the sector will need to expand by about 4.3% in the second half of the year, compared with the 3.75% growth projected under the previous scenario.
The MOAE has set a US$74 billion export target for 2026. Having generated nearly US$42.8 billion in the first seven months, the sector will need to earn about US$31.2 billion over the remaining five months to meet the goal.
To support the target, the MOAE will prioritise expanding export markets, accelerating the issuance of growing-area and packing facility codes, strengthening product traceability systems, and helping exporters comply with new import-market requirements.
It will also continue efforts to lift the European Commission's IUU "yellow card" warning, remove bottlenecks facing key export industries, promote science and technology, innovation and digital transformation, and improve the sector's data infrastructure.
