CPI increases by 3.15% this year: GSO

VOV.VN - The consumer price index (CPI) recorded annual growth of 3.15%, while the average core inflation this year rose by 2.59% compared to 2021’s figures, fulfilling the set target by the National Assembly, the General Statistics Office (GSO) revealed on December 29.

According to the GSO update, the CPI in December alone endured a decline of 0.01% compared to the previous month, while the CPI in the fourth quarter edged up by 0.67% compared to the previous quarter and by 4.41% against the same period from last year.

The GSO pointed out that domestic gasoline prices saw a fall in line with the global fuel prices, which has significantly contributed to December's CPI decrease over the previous month. As a result, the CPI for December 2022 rose 4.55% year on year.

The average core inflation this year also increased by 2.59% compared to 2021, lower than the overall average CPI, showing that changes in consumer prices were mainly driven by fluctuations occurring in food, foodstuff, and petrol prices, the GSO noted.

The GSO emphasised that the country's rapid economic recovery, coupled with a hike in demand for the production of goods along with the impact of raw material prices on the world market, have pushed up the domestic prices of goods and services.

Furthermore, the producer price index, the index of raw materials for production, as well as the export and import price index, in the fourth quarter witnessed an increase against the same period from last year.
