Conference seeks ways to boost passion fruit and durian exports to China

VOV.VN - Buon Ma Thuat city hosted an international conference on August 26 to discuss ways in which to improve the capacity of passion fruit and durian businesses to penetrate the Chinese market.

The event was jointly held by the Asia-Africa Market Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Dak Lak Department of Industry and Trade.

During the function, To Ngoc Son, deputy director of the Asia-Africa Market Department, outlined that China remains the world's largest consumer of durian, adding that passion fruit is also the most widely-consumed fruits on Chinese e-commerce platforms.

In relation to this potential, Vietnam is currently the leading supplier of passion fruit juice to the northern neighbour with an estimated export turnover reaching US$34 million last year.

Recent developments include the General Administration of Customs of China in early July agreeing to pilot the import of Vietnamese passion fruit through seven border gates in Guangxi province.

The main aim of the conference is to provide businesses with information on market demand and instruct them to prepare technical standards in which to meet the requirements of the Chinese market moving forward.

The occasion also highlights several challenges facing Vietnamese agricultural exports amid the enforcement of new generation trade agreements, as well as gaining insights into technical regulations which can help to further boost the export of durian and passion fruit to China.

Nong Duc Lai, commercial counselor of Vietnam’s Trade Office in Beijing, also briefed participants on both market demand and the distribution hubs of fruit in China.

Huynh Ngoc Duong, deputy director of Dak Lak’s Department of Industry and Trade, expressed his belief that through the conference, businesses can gain greater insights into the export regulations of durian and passion fruit to the Chinese market. This will allow them to devise proactive plans, improve competitiveness, and ensure product quality and innovate trade promotion methods which meet the strict requirements set by China.
