Coffee enterprises of Vietnam and China promote cross-border value chain

Participants at the conference said Vietnam and China hold great potential to develop a cross-border coffee value chain. Vietnam has advantages in raw material resources and in the production and export of Robusta coffee, while China is a rapidly growing consumer market with increasing demand for roasted, instant and value-added coffee products.

At the event, Li Yi, Deputy Director of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Commerce, said the province attaches great importance to trade cooperation with Vietnam and will continue improving cross-border logistics infrastructure, optimising customs clearance procedures and facilitating deeper access for Vietnamese coffee products to the Chinese market.

Representing Vietnam, Le Hoang Tai, Deputy Director General of the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, noted that Vietnam is the world’s leading exporter of Robusta coffee. To support the sector’s sustainable development, he proposed greater trade facilitation, increased sharing of technical standards information, stronger cross-border logistics connectivity and cooperation in developing high-quality coffee products in line with green consumption trends.

Delegates also proposed measures to facilitate trade, including improving cross-border logistics links, streamlining customs procedures, sharing information on technical standards and expanding cooperation in deep processing and the development of high-quality products.

Notably, enterprises from both nations showed interest in expanding joint ventures, technology transfer and investment in processing and packaging facilities located near coffee-growing areas. These efforts will help increase the added value of coffee products and support more sustainable supply chains.

A highlight of the conference was the signing of cooperation memoranda and commercial contracts between businesses from the two countries, thereby contributing to stronger cross-border coffee value chain linkages.

Following the conference, participating enterprises joined specialised business-matching activities covering raw materials, processed products and coffee industry technologies, thus offering additional opportunities for practical and sustainable cooperation in the future.
