Ca Mau strengthens cooperation with Dutch partners in green growth and marine economy

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Van Su and leaders of provincial departments had a meeting on July 1 with Raïssa Marteaux, Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City, during her working visit to the province.
Ca Mau is among the localities most affected by climate change, but is also Vietnam’s largest shrimp-farming area, covering around 418,000 hectares. The province has identified green, circular and low-emission shrimp development as a long-term goal, Su told his guest.
In recent years, with support from the Dutch government and partners, several cooperation programs have been effectively implemented in Ca Mau.
These include ShrimpTech Vietnam, which promotes the shrimp sector’s transition toward net-zero emissions; the TomGoxy®Zero model combining super-intensive shrimp farming with mangrove restoration; AquaGene Vietnam, focused on research and breeding of high-quality shrimp varieties; and De Heus Group’s RAS-IMTA circular farming model, that helps save water and control disease.
The Sustainable Shrimp Governance project, co-funded by ActionAid International and the European Union, is also supporting the province in strengthening governance capacity and developing production in line with international standards.
Ca Mau is also focusing on major infrastructure projects, including the Hon Khoai dual-use general port, Nam Can Economic Zone, LNG-to-power projects, wind power projects and the upgrade of Ca Mau Airport.
These are areas where the Netherlands has strong expertise, opening up opportunities for both sides to expand cooperation in marine economic development, logistics and renewable energy.
Le Van Su reaffirmed Ca Mau’s commitment to creating favorable conditions for Dutch organizations and businesses to invest and carry out projects effectively, helping deepen practical and sustainable cooperation.
In response, Raïssa Marteaux hailed cooperation results between the Netherlands and Ca Mau, particularly programs supporting greener shrimp production, emissions reduction and climate adaptation.
She said Vietnam and the Netherlands are important partners with many shared priorities in sustainable agricultural development, and expressed hope for expanded cooperation with Ca Mau in the coming years.
During the visit, Marteaux invited Ca Mau provincial leaders and local seafood businesses to join a delegation attending the Global Shrimp Forum in the Netherlands, scheduled for August 30 to September 5, 2026.
In return, Le Van Su invited the Consulate General and Dutch businesses to attend the 2026 Ca Mau Shrimp Festival to explore investment opportunities and beef u trade cooperation.
According to the schedule, the Dutch Consulate delegation will conduct field visits to Tan Phat Loi Cooperative in Tan An commune and De Heus Group’s RAS-IMTA shrimp farming model in Phu Tan commune.
