Ca Mau breaks ground on Japan-Bac Lieu wind power project

Once completed, the project will contribute clean electricity to the national grid, help make better use of renewable energy potential in the Mekong Delta, and reflects Ca Mau’s determination to attract investment, promote green growth and advance sustainable development.

At the ground-breaking the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ca Mau provincial People’s Committee Huynh Chi Nguyen said that following administrative consolidation, Ca Mau now has broader development space with significant advantages in the marine economy, aquaculture and seafood processing, logistics, eco-tourism, and particularly renewable energy.

With its long coastline, favourable wind conditions and suitable natural characteristics, Ca Mau is regarded as one of Vietnam’s most promising localities for wind power development.

The province considers clean energy development one of the key drivers of economic growth, contributing to lower greenhouse gas emissions, national energy security and Vietnam’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

According to Huynh Chi Nguyen, Ca Mau has in recent years focused on improving the investment climate, accelerating administrative reform and enhancing competitiveness to create favourable conditions for long-term business development.

The Nhat Ban-Bac Lieu Wind Power Project has a designed capacity of 50 MW and total investment of nearly VND2.5 trillion. Located in the province’s coastal area, the project is scheduled for completion before December 31, 2027.

Once operational, the project will supply clean electricity to the national grid, contribute to energy security and lower greenhouse gas emissions, while also creating jobs, increasing budget revenues and supporting local socio-economic development.

It is also expected to help unlock the province’s renewable energy potential, gradually form a green economic value chain and create new momentum for development in coastal areas.

Representing Japan-Bac Lieu Energy JSC- the project’s investor, Tran Thi Bich Phuong said the company chose Ca Mau for its wind power investment because of the province’s strong potential, favourable natural conditions and stable year-round wind speeds.

The investor committed to delivering the project on schedule, ensuring technical quality, complying with regulations on environmental protection, labour and construction safety, while maintaining close coordination with local authorities throughout implementation.

For the 2026-2030 period, Ca Mau aims for average annual growth in electricity output of more than 10.4%, while continuing to invest in transmission grid infrastructure and renewable energy sources such as wind power, solar power, hydrogen and green ammonia.

The province is also set to ensure energy security through synchronised development of natural gas/LNG infrastructure and power transmission systems, laying the groundwork for energy exports as it moves toward becoming a renewable energy and energy export centre in the Mekong Delta by 2030.

Investor approved for nearly VND 48.4 trillion wind power project in Gia Lai
