PM Phuc underlines promoting Vietnam’s image through WEF ASEAN

VOV.VN -Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized the need to create a good impression about Vietnam through the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN) slated for September 11-13 in Hanoi, while chairing an August 22 cabinet meeting on preparations for the important event.

According to reports from the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the WEF-ASEAN Organizing Board, Vietnam has so far agreed with the WEF on all sessions, major activities set to take place from September 11-13 at the National Convention Center, and the agenda with nearly 60 sessions and activities, including many plenary sessions which will be live broadcast on the WEF websites and those of world prestigious media agencies.

The Presidents and Prime Ministers from eight countries have confirmed their attendance at the meeting, indicating the largest ever number of participating senior leaders. In addition to several Deputy Prime Ministers, foreign ministers, an estimated number of 50 ministers are due to attend the event. To date, as many as 800 delegates from leading regional and international groups have also confirmed their attendance along with 120 reporters from news agencies across the globe.

After listening to reports on the preparatory work, the government leader extolled the good relationship between Vietnam and the WEF as last year  Vietnam was the first country to have signed a cooperative agreement on Public – Private Partnership (PPP) with the WEF on the development of Vietnam's self-reliant economy in the future.

“We should create a good impression about Vietnam through the World Economic Forum on ASEAN hosted by Hanoi. Everything should be under control and well prepared, from receptions and environmental hygiene to Vietnam’s initiatives and new style of governance,” he said.

With around 1,000 world leading enterprises in attendance, he stressed the need to create confidence in Vietnam's renewal policies and improved business investment environment, which should be reflected through the preparation in order to facilitate the enhancement of connection between WEF and Vietnamese investors, the government added.

PM Phuc urged all sub-committees to make the most of the experience gained through the organisation of APEC 2017, the sixth Greater Mekong Sub-Region (GMS-6) Summit, and the 10th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Summit to ensure the success of this year's top important event.
