NA opens sixth session, presents personnel plan for presidential post

VOV.VN -On October 22, the 14th National Assembly (NA) convened its sixth session in Hanoi and is scheduled to put forward a personnel plan for election to the post of President.

On the afternoon of October 22, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, on behalf of the NA Standing Committee,  presented a report on the personnel plan for election to the presidential post while Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc delivered a report on the socio-economic performance in 2018 and a plan for socio-economic development next year, including a mid-term review of the five-year socio-economic development plan (2016-2020).

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Tran Thanh Man will deliver a report summarizing the opinions and proposals of voters and people.

Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Committee for Economic Affairs Vu Hong Thanh will present an appraisal report evaluating the results of implementation of NA resolutions on socio-economic development plan for this year and three years after carrying out of the five-year plan for socio-economic development (2016-2020) and socio-economic development plan for next year.

As scheduled, NA deputies will discuss and vote on a list for election to the presidential post and will elect a new President on October 23. The new State President will be sworn-in immediately after being elected by the National Assembly.

The NA will also consider and approve the removal of Truong Minh Tuan from the post of Minister of Information and Communications, and pass the appointment of the new minister.
During the session, the legislature will consider and adopt 9 bills, 1 draft resolution and give opinions on 6 other bills.

The NA will mull over a series of reports on the 3-year implementation of NA resolutions on the five-year plan for socio-economic development (2016-2020), economic restructuring, national finance and mid-term public investment, the results of the implementation of socio-economic development plan and State budget estimates in 2018, socio-economic development plan, State budget estimates,  and central budget allocation plan for 2019, including a review of the 2019-2022 plan for national finance and budget.

Regarding supervisory work, law makers will look into reports from the Chief Judge of the Supreme People's Court, the Head of the Supreme People's Procuracy and the government on crime prevention, violations of law, the execution of sentence and anti-corruption measures in 2018.

Also at this session, the NA is destined to ratify the Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The important deal will greatly impact on the country’s politics, economics, social affairs and diplomacy, especially on the industrial sector and workers’ rights.

As planned, the legislature’s session will last over 24 days (excluding holidays) and its closing session is slated for November 21.
