NA deputies discuss bill on temporary detention and custody

(VOV) - On November 9, National Assembly (NA) deputies discussed the bill on temporary detention and custody on Monday, agreeing that temporary detention agencies and criminal investigation agencies must be separate to ensure the human and civil rights of people in being temporarily held.

They agreed to maintain the existing organization of temporary detention houses and suggested increasing the responsibility of the custody managers to prevent power abuse during investigation and prosecution.

Huynh Van Tinh, a deputy from Tien Giang province said, “I agree that the system of agencies in charge of temporary detention and custody should be organized independently to separate investigators and prosecutors. It will separate the functions of investigation agencies and the management of detention houses, aiming to avoid abuses and mistakes in the interrogation process.”

On the same day, the NA deputies reviewed the pilot implementation of bailiff regulations and a draft decree on the implementation of these regulations.
