NA Chairman meets Vietnamese diplomats
(VOV) -On July 1, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung received ambassador and heads of representative agencies of Vietnam abroad before their departure for assuming office.
The top legislator congratulated the newly-accredited ambassadors and representative agency heads and appreciated the operational efficiency of the diplomatic sector over recent years.
Despite facing the complex international context amid opportunities and challenges for foreign affairs, the diplomatic sector has achieved outstanding results in the state diplomacy, parliamentary diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy.
Vietnam’s strengthened bilateral and multilateral relations and strategies have contributed to raising its status in the international arena. The successful organization of the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU) with the participation of hundreds of parliamentary delegations around the globe was a remarkable achievement of the diplomatic sector in 2015, NA Chairman Hung stressed.
In this spirit, he urged the diplomats to take advantage of mutually beneficial cooperation opportunities in multiple fronts to make positive contributions to national development.
Hung also asked them to thoroughly grasp Party and State guidelines on the country’s development, particularly the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralisation, pay more attention to the Party’s external affairs, the State diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy in all aspects including politics, economics and culture.
The diplomats should well carry out key tasks of external affairs during the nation’s industrialization, modernization and global integration, helping maintain the country’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, keep an environment of peace, stability for development and unceasingly reinforce friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the rest of the world and international organizations, Hung said.
The diplomats were also asked to step up promoting the image of Vietnam and its people to international friends and pay heed to the protection of Vietnamese citizens living abroad.
For their part, the ambassadors and chief representatives overseas pledged their best efforts to promote diplomatic relations and parliamentary cooperation between Vietnam and other countries in a more practical and effective manner for the benefits of the country.
