First session of 14th National Assembly opens
The first session of the 14th National Assembly opened in Hanoi on July 20 with the ceremony broadcast live on the national television and radio channels.
Before the opening ceremony, Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front leaders, together with National Assembly deputies laid wreaths and paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum. Representatives from National Assembly deputy delegates paid floral tribute at the Monument to National Heroes and Fallen Soldiers
The session opened at nine a.m.
Chairwoman of the 13th National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan delivered the opening speech and chaired the session.
Following a speech by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Vice Chairwoman of the 13th NA and Standing Vice Chairwoman of the National Election Council (NEC) Tong Thi Phong presented a report on the elections of deputies to the 14th NA and People’s Councils at all levels in the 2016-2021 tenure.
Vice Chairman of the 13th NA and NEC member Phung Quoc Hien delivered a report on the verification of qualifications of deputies to the 14th NA.
President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan read a report summing up opinions and recommendations of voters collected during the elections of deputies to the 14th NA and People’s Councils at all levels in the 2016-2021 tenure.
In the afternoon, Chairwoman of the 13th NA Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan submitted to the NA a proposal of the 13th NA Standing Committee on the number of Vice Chairpersons and members of the Standing Committee for the 14th NA.
NA deputies then worked in groups to elect head and deputy head of their delegations, and discuss proposal on the number of Vice Chairpersons and members of the Standing Committee for the 14th NA.
On July 21, the NA is scheduled to discuss candidates for the Chairperson, Vice Chairpersons and member of the Standing Committees of the 14th tenure.
