World Cup 2026 offers opportunity to promote Vietnamese cuisine in Canada

VOV.VN - The 2026 World Cup is giving Vietnamese restaurants in Canada an opportunity to introduce traditional Vietnamese cuisine to local diners, international visitors and football fans from around the world, while bringing more business to restaurants across the country.

At Sen Vietnamese Cuisine, this year's World Cup has become a special occasion. The restaurant is decorated with the national flags of different countries, while a large screen in the central dining area allows customers to enjoy Vietnamese dishes as they watch their favorite matches.

Speaking to the media in Canada, restaurant manager Huong Nguyen said the restaurant displays the flags of different countries to create a welcoming atmosphere for all guests, regardless of where they come from. In addition to preparing the venue, the restaurant has also paid close attention to ingredient supplies and staffing to accommodate increased customer demand on match days. These preparations have helped make Sen Vietnamese Cuisine a welcoming destination during the World Cup, where international diners can enjoy football while experiencing the flavors of Vietnam.

Kennice, a customer at the restaurant, said she had tried Vietnamese food many times and that phở, Vietnam's iconic noodle soup, was her favorite dish. She said the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and that both the food and service were excellent, making it a place she visited regularly.

For international diners, pho is an appealing culinary experience, while for overseas Vietnamese it brings back the taste of home.

Thuy Dao, a Vietnamese American visiting Canada during the World Cup, said it is her first visit to Sen Vietnamese Cuisine and she naturally ordered pho because it is her favorite dish. According to her, the aroma alone is  enticing, while the rich, unforgettable flavor and fresh rice noodles suit her family's taste perfectly. She was delighted to enjoy Vietnamese food while watching World Cup matches on the big screen.

For the restaurant, the World Cup provides a rare opportunity to reach a broader customer base, from local residents to international visitors. As a global sporting event unfolds, Vietnamese dishes such as phở, chả giò (fried spring rolls) and cơm sườn (grilled pork with rice) not only satisfy diners but also offer a way to tell the story of Vietnamese culture.

According to Huong Nguyen, although the restaurant's staff live and work in Canada, they are always proud of Vietnam's culture and culinary heritage.

Sen Vietnamese Cuisine hopes to take advantage of the World Cup season to promote Vietnamese cuisine and show more people how appealing it is. From steaming bowls of phở to light dishes enjoyed while watching the matches, Vietnamese cuisine has found a special stage during the World Cup in Canada.

Football brings people closer together, while the flavors of Vietnam serve as a bridge, helping international diners learn more about the country's culture, people and Vietnamese community in Canada's multicultural society.
