Vietnamese singer performs at Asia Song Festival

Vietnam’s Trong Hieu took part in the 2020 Asia Song Festival, which also featured a number of other famous artists, starting on October 10.

The organizers said the event’s main venue was Gyeongju City, the Republic of Korea, and it started at 6 p.m. (Hanoi time).

Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, there were no audiences. All non-Korean artists recorded performances streamed live on the ASF website and the Republic of Korea's channel The K-Pop.

Hieu is Vietnam’s only representative. He also takes part in a special performance with other international artists.

He said he was honored and happy to be part of such a big musical event but also a bit sad he could not travel to the Republic of Korea and perform live.

"Nonetheless, I’m excited because I have the chance to collaborate with international artists in a big project.

"The ASF is a long-established event and always impresses people with amazing performances. My dream is to become one of the best performers, so taking part in the ASF will give me more confidence in pursuing that dream."

K-pop artists this year include Irene and Seulgi (Red Velvet), Yooa (Oh My Girls), Momoland, GFriend, and The Boyz.

Yeeun (CLC) and Doyoung (NCT) emceed the event.

There are six artists from other countries this year: AKB48 (Japan), Project K (Myanmar), When Chai Met Toast (India), S.K.Y (China), and Mili (Thailand).

The ASF has been held since 2004 by the Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange.

Vietnamese artists participating in the ASF in the past have included My Tam (2004), My Linh (2005), Ho Quynh Huong (2006 and 2008), Lam Truong (2007), Ho Ngoc Ha (2009), Noo Phuoc Thinh and Slim V (2006), Dong Nhi (2017), and Vu Cat Tuong (2018 and 2019).
