Vietnamese opera performed at int’l music festival in Czech Republic
An opera in Vietnamese composed by Czech-Vietnamese playwright Hoang Thi Kieu Anh was performed at the ongoing Festival Forfest 2017 in the Czech Republic.
This is the first time an opera in Vietnamese has been staged at the event. Hoang Thi Kieu Anh played the piano herself to accompany Czech-Japanese soloist Nao Higano.
Zdenka Vaculovicova, President of the festival expressed her hope that more operas in Vietnamese will be introduced in the Czech Republic.
Hoang Thi Kieu Anh was born into a musical family in the north central province of Thanh Hoa. She studied at the Slovakia Academy of Music after graduating from the Vietnam National Academy of Music and has continued her music career there.
She has composed about 100 works so far, many of which are popular in Slovakia.
The Festival Forfest is an international contemporary music festival, which is held in four cities, including Kromeriz and Olomous of the Czech Republic, Bratislava of Slovakia and San Marino of the San Marino Republic.
It runs until September 3 with artists from the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, the US and Japan.
