Vietnamese artist shortlisted for prestigious regional art prize

Vietnamese artist Nguyen Trinh Thi's artwork is among the works of 15 artists shortlisted for the SG$60,000 (US$48,000) APB Foundation Signature Art Prize 2014.

Entitled Unsubtitled, Thi's video installation is a combination of acting and mixed media.

Thi, 41, is a Hanoi-based independent filmmaker and video artist. She is also founder and director of DOCLAB, an independent centre for documentary films and video art in Hanoi.

The 15 artists shortlisted for the APB Foundation Signature Art Prize 2014 are from 13 countries and territories, namely Thailand, the Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, mainland China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Australia, India, Bangladesh and Taiwan.

The awards this year received 105 entries from 24 countries and territories. The APB Foundation Signature Art Prize, instituted in 2008, is awarded every three years.

The works of the 15 finalists will be exhibited at the Singapore Art Museum from November 14 until next March. The winner will be announced at an award ceremony in January.
