Vietnam women to compete in Asian volleyball event

Vietnam will take part in the upcoming Asian Women's Cup Volleyball Championship to be held in China on September 6-12.

The event will attract eight leading teams from around the continent.

According to the draw, based on the final ranking at the 2013 tournament, Vietnam will compete in Group A alongside China, the Republic of Korea and Iran. While Thailand, Japan, Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei will face off in Group B.

Thailand triumphed topped the event last year, while Vietnam ranked sixth among 16 teams.

In beach volleyball news, Vietnamese pair Le Thi Bich Vi and Tu Thi Thu Van overcame Sierra Leone's Turay Aminata and Conteh Kadiatu Haja in the women's preliminary round of pool B at the second Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China on August 21.
