Vietnam to serve as Vice Chair of World Heritage Committee's 49th session
VOV.VN - Vietnam has been elected as a Vice Chair of the 49th session of the World Heritage Committee, scheduled to take place in Istanbul, Türkiye, from June 27 to July 7, 2027.
Under established practice, host nation Türkiye will assume the chairmanship, while Armenia, Grenada, Tanzania, and Kuwait were also elected as vice chairs alongside Vietnam.
Türkiye was selected as the host country during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, the Republic of Korea.
Each year, the World Heritage Committee holds a plenary session lasting approximately 15 days, bringing together state parties to the 1972 Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, alongside delegates from international organizations. A key item on the agenda is the review and assessment of new nominations for World Heritage status.
Vietnam is currently among the 21 member states of the World Heritage Committee for the 2023-2027 term. The country is actively preparing and defending the nomination dossier for the Oc Eo - Ba The Archaeological Site in An Giang province, which is expected to be considered by UNESCO at the upcoming 49th session.
Vietnam attends 47th session of UNESCO World Heritage Committee
A Vietnamese delegation, including Standing Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu and Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong, is attending the 47th session of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee in Paris from July 6 to 16.
