Thai Nguyen International Tea Festival to boost tourism with digital experiences

VOV.VN - The northern province of Thai Nguyen is preparing to transform its International Tea Festival 2026 into a large-scale cultural and tourism event featuring immersive experiences, digital technology and heritage-themed activities aimed at promoting Vietnamese tea culture to domestic and international visitors.

Scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, the festival is expected to coincide with the 195th anniversary of the establishment of Thai Nguyen province (1831-2026), while supporting tourism promotion, trade connectivity and the global branding of Thai Nguyen tea.

Organisers said they are focusing on enhancing visitor interaction and experiential activities throughout the festival.

The opening programme is expected to highlight performances incorporating modern stage technologies alongside a large-scale Tea Carnival designed to celebrate the identity and traditions of Vietnamese tea culture.

A proposed “Vietnam Master Tea” competition is also set to honour tea brewing artistry and showcase the sophistication of Vietnam’s tea-drinking heritage.

Among the festival’s most notable ideas is the “Heritage Train” programme along the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen railway route. The experience will help promote tea-growing regions, connect tourism destinations and create a unique travel product centered on tea culture.

In parallel, Thai Nguyen is planning nighttime tea tours combined with 3D Mapping projection technology, offering visitors a new way to explore traditional tea culture through digital storytelling and immersive visual experiences.

Nguyen Thi Loan, vice chairwoman of the Thai Nguyen provincial People’s Committee, said the festival should maximise the cultural value of Vietnamese tea while also serving as a catalyst for tourism development, trade promotion and regional branding.

The festival aims to become prestigious cultural and economic event with wide influence both domestically and internationally, Loan shared.

According to provincial plans, preparations for the festival will be linked to the development of tourism products centred on tea plantations, tea cultural spaces, traditional craft villages and local cuisine.

Digital technologies are also expected to play a greater role in promoting destinations, tourism routes and visitor services.

The Thai Nguyen International Tea Festival was first held in 2011, and this year will mark the fourth edition of the festival.
