Summer activities for children at Van Lake - Hanoi’s Temple of Literature
VOV.VN - A summer program called “Young scholars-Nurturing dreams” is underway at Hanoi’s 1,000-year-old Temple of Literature, the first university in Vietnam.
“The event is aimed at creating more entertaining activities for children and Hanoi city dwellers during this summer. Through diverse cultural experiences, we hope the children can learn more about our national traditional cultural values and improve their life skills and knowledge,” said Le Xuan Kieu, Director of Temple of Literature’s Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities. |
The program will last from June 1 to August 25. Each week features a talkshow, performing activities, and rural market sessions. |
Organized by the Temple of Literature's Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities, the event offers visitors and children in Hanoi and adjacent areas an opportunity to experience cultural activities of their predecessors. |
The organizers hope the program will create a meaningful playground for Hanoi dwellers and visitors while offering children fun activities, encouraging them to explore cultural values such as folk games and handicraft products. |
At this event, the young scholars have an opportunity to experience modern calligraphy and meet with calligraphers. “I’m very happy to introduce to Hanoi people, particularly children different styles of calligraphy, including a style that requires the calligrapher to have both drawing and handwriting skills,” said calligrapher Nguyen Manh Tu. |
Children learn to make kites and decorate them with their imagination. |
An open exhibition displays traditional kites, artistic kites, and international kites at Van Lake. Artisans from kite-making clubs from across Vietnam and the Vietnamese Kite Heritage Conservation Centre introduce and instruct visitors to make their own kites. The best kites will receive a certificate from the Centre and be sent to international kite events. |
The young scholars join artisans from craft villages to explore the process of making traditional handicraft products such as paper masks, rattan fish-pots, bamboo butterflies, and scented tea. They can take home the products they made. |
