Saigon Int’l Guitar Festival 2019 opens this week

The 6th Saigon International Guitar Festival - Competition 2019 will take place at the Ho Chi Minh Conservatory of Music on November 6-10.

The festival will also feature internationally well-known guitarists, including Prof Jorgos Panetsos from Austria, Dr Harris Becker of the US, Tamaki Shibuya of Japan, Diaz Alvarez from Mexico, Anton Isselhardt of Germany, Leon Koulelak of the Czech Republic, Pongpat Pongpradit of Thailand… along with local and foreign artists of Mihoko Watanabe, Wakako Mochizuki, Masumi Sato, Ravisut Patipatvasin, Paul Cesarczyk, Nguyen Thanh Huy, Huynh Ba Tho, Nguyen Tri Doan, Khuu Xuan Quynh and an ensemble of 40 Vietnamese guitarists.
The event will include exchanges, seminars and workshops on learning guitar, introducing lesson on beginner guitar techniques and basic skills for players.
Music lovers will have a chance to enjoy many perfromances and competitions, including the ASEAN International Classical Guitar Competition with categories of the Open category, the Junior category, the Local category and the guitar ensemble on November 7-10 attracting nearly 100 contestants from countries in the region.
The highest prize that will be a guitar costing 1 milllion Yen (over VND200 million) will be presented by one of the most famous Japanese luthiers, Masaki Sakurai. He will also give a talk on guitar making on November 8.
Being launched in 2014, the concert is an impressive cultural exchange event where a whole spectrum of colorful emotions will be assembled. This is a rare opportunity for the Vietnamese audiences to enjoy the special of international finger-style guitar.
