Regional chefs showcase durian cuisine in Dak Lak
VOV.VN - Seven innovative dishes made from durian by chefs from Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia have been introduced in Buon Ma Thuot ward, Dak Lak province, aiming to develop signature culinary products for tourism and the Dak Lak Durian Festival 2026.
The culinary showcase was held on June 30 by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Lak Province as part of promotional activities for the upcoming Durian Festival.
The event featured WorldChefs members Ly Kim Long from Vietnam, Kongsawat Surasak from Thailand and Lee Chan Hoong from Malaysia, along with Miss Tourism Vietnam Ambassador Dinh Thi Hoa.
At the event, the chefs demonstrated and introduced seven durian-based dishes, including baked shrimp with cheese sauce, shrimp with salted egg yolk sauce, grilled spicy shrimp with durian sauce, green curry, durian sticky rice, sambal fried rice and durian tapioca pudding.
The dishes were developed with a fusion approach, combining traditional flavours with modern culinary techniques and highlighting durian in both savoury and dessert applications.
Organisers described the talkshow as an “open table” culinary experience, with durian serving as the central inspiration for creative gastronomy, while also creating a space for exchange among chefs from Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia.
According to Nguyen Quoc Hiep, deputy director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, durian is both a key agricultural product and a symbol of Dak Lak's culture and identity.
The province hopes to promote Dak Lak as a culinary tourist destination and enhance the value of its signature durian brand through such initiatives, he added.
Organisers said the seven dishes would be further refined before being introduced at restaurants and hotels across the province during the Dak Lak Durian Festival, scheduled from August 15 to September 2.
The festival aims to position durian-based cuisine as a distinctive tourism product of the locality.
