The Pho Hien cultural festival opened in the Red delta province of Hung Yen on March 31 with the aim of promoting its traditional cultural values and image to domestic and foreign visitors.

A series of activities took place, including performances by traditional operetta artists from Hanoi and Hung Yen as well as various sports games.

Under the framework of the festival, there were stalls to showcase famous products in Hung Yen province, such as lotus seeds, longans, honey and a variety of noodles.

Located on the banks of the Red River, some 60 kilometres from Hanoi, Pho Hien was a bustling port between the 13th and 15th centuries attracting traders from as far as China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, the Middle East and Europe.
