National Day celebrations highlight cultural heritage and livelihoods in many localities
VOV.VN - From the highlands of Dien Bien province to the historic waterways of Hue City and Quang Tri province, local communities celebrated National Day (September 2) with cultural festivities, traditional sports, and community tourism launches.
Highland villagers in Dien Bien link National Day with local livelihoods
In Dien Bien province, National Day festivities extended from the provincial center to remote mountain villages. In Tu Lu Tia Lo village, Pu Nhi Commune, home to 161 Mong households, the holiday coincided with the official launch of a community-based tourism model.
In 2024, the village received over VND170 million for a welcome gate. In 2025, a further investment of more thanVND7 billion (approx. US$280,000) funded an exhibition house, product display rooms, a performance stage, and lighting infrastructure. Residents contributed over 1,000 working days and VND150 million to build a community cultural center.
Currently, 15 households have registered for tourism services, including five operating small homestays. Traditional Mong clothing, panpipe music, folk songs, dances, local cuisine, and customs are turning into cultural products for visitors.
"I woke up at 4 a.m. to prepare," said Thao Thi Pa Sang, a local villager. "The village roads are clean, decorated with flags and flowers, and packed with visitors. I feel very happy."
Local authorities are developing infrastructure and experiential tourism products to create jobs and raise incomes.
Traditional boat races draw thousands in ancient capital of Hue
On the morning of September 2, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Hue City organized the 37th Traditional Boat Race on the Perfume River to mark the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.
Ten teams representing local wards and communes competed in 10 men's, women's, and mixed events covering distances between 700 and 900 meters. Drums and cheers from spectators along both riverbanks created a lively festive atmosphere.
Maintained over many years, the annual race serves as a cultural and sports gathering, fostering solidarity among localities and preserving the traditions of the ancient capital.
Waterway racing festival echoes along Kien Giang River
Le Thuy Commune in Quang Tri province on September 2 organized its traditional boat racing festival on the Kien Giang River, the hometown of General Vo Nguyen Giap.
Tens of thousands of residents and visitors gathered along the riverbanks. Spectators brought national flags, drums, gongs, and metal basins to cheer on the competing boats representing their villages.
This year's festival featured 21 men's boat teams and eight women's boat teams. The event reinforces local solidarity, honors martial spirit, and preserves a sacred cultural tradition long tied to National Day in the Kien Giang river area.
