‘Memento Mori: Earth’ to compete at Busan Int’l Film Fest 2022

VOV.VN-‘Memento Mori: Earth’ by Marcus Manh Cuong Vu will compete for the New Currents prize at the upcoming Busan Film Festival scheduled to take place from October 5 - 14.

The film is the first movie in the trilogy of ‘Memento Mori the Movie’ with Marcus Manh Cuong Vu writing the script and directing the film.

Launched in 2019, the series draws inspiration from the true story of the ‘Destination of life’ book by Vietnamese author Dang Hoang Giang.

The film tells the story of Van, a young mother who is left bedridden in a wooden house with only a few months left to live. Struggling between reality, memories, and dreams, she finds a way to leave messages for her two young daughters Nguyet and Nga. In addition, she has a wish to donate her organs for medical services and studies.

The other two movies in the series are ‘Memento Mori: Fire’ and ‘Memento Mori: Water’ which also feature journeys involving death and discovering the true meaning of life. Set against different backgrounds, the three films explore relationships within the family, such as motherhood, brotherhood, and that between a husband and wife.

New Currents is the only international competition section featuring the first and second feature films by directors with the potential to lead Asian cinema in the future.

Launched in 1996, the annual Busan International Film Festival is one of the most significant film festivals throughout Asia. It aims to introduce new films and first-time directors, as well as to develop and promote young talent, especially those from Asian countries.
