Japan's Asobisystem launches Vietnam girl group audition
VOV.VN - Asobisystem, the Japanese entertainment company behind several Harajuku cultural icons and popular idol groups, has launched auditions to form Vietnam's first girl group.
The plan is part of the company’s Kawaii Lab Asia Global Audition 2026, which is being held simultaneously in Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea and China. In Vietnam, the project is organised as the Kawaii Lab Vietnam Audition 2026 in partnership with POPS Music.
According to organisers, the project aims to create a girl group of seven to nine members, rather than selecting individual performers. The training model is designed to develop each member's individuality while drawing on the approach that has helped Japanese idol groups such as FRUITS ZIPPER, CANDY TUNE and SWEET STEADY gain popularity.
Applications are open to females aged 12 to 22 who are living in Vietnam. Applicants are not required to have prior performance experience, formal arts training or Japanese language skills. Foreign nationals legally residing in Vietnam who are fluent in Vietnamese are also eligible to apply.
Successful candidates will undergo an intensive training programme lasting six months to one year tailored to the members' capabilities and team compatibility, with the girl group expected to debut in or after 2027. Organisers said the training schedule will be arranged flexibly to minimise disruption to younger members' studies.
A representative of Kawaii Lab said the project aims to discover young talent across Asia while promoting Harajuku culture through locally developed idol groups tailored to each market.
Misa Kimura, representative of the producer Kawaii Lab, expressed her high hopes for the fresh energy of Asian youth. KAWAII LAB. is created with the vision of bringing Harajuku culture to the world and the event marks the next step in that journey. It aims to discover young talents, honour each individual's unique identity, and build the future of Kawaii, she shared.
Online applications will be accepted until October 31, 2026. Candidates can find more information and apply via the website https://kawaiilabvn.popsww.com or the fanpage https://facebook.com/kawaiilabvn.
