Italy's legendary opera La Traviata takes the stage in Hanoi

The performances are expected not only to bring a masterpiece of Italian opera to Vietnamese audiences but also to deepen cultural cooperation between Vietnam and Italy, as well as reinforcing Vietnam's ambition to become a destination for world-class performing arts.

A timeless masterpiece arrives in Hanoi

More than 170 years after its premiere, La Traviata remains one of the most frequently performed operas worldwide.

Based on La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas fils, the opera tells the tragic love story of Violetta Valéry and Alfredo Germont. Its unforgettable melodies and emotional depth have secured its place among the greatest works in operatic history.

The Hanoi performances will feature the artistic team of Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi di Trieste, the first opera house in the world named after Giuseppe Verdi and one of Italy's oldest continuously operating lyric theatres.

Joining the production are the theatre's orchestra and chorus, under the musical direction of internationally acclaimed conductor and pianist Vanessa Benelli Mosell, bringing an authentic Italian interpretation of Verdi's classic to Vietnamese audiences.

Expanding international artistic partnerships

According to representatives of Ho Guom Opera House, the production marks an important milestone in the venue's strategy to strengthen international artistic cooperation and introduce original productions from leading global theatres to Vietnam.

By welcoming prestigious international companies, the theatre aims to position Vietnam as an emerging destination for major cultural performances in Asia while expanding opportunities for domestic audiences to experience internationally acclaimed productions without travelling abroad.

The organisers believe successful collaborations such as La Traviata will encourage more renowned theatres and performing arts companies to include Vietnam in their international touring schedules.
