HCM City to host Vietnam-US friendship concert

VOV.VN - A friendship concert is scheduled to take place on May 28 at the Saigon Opera House in Ho Chi Minh City to mark the 27th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic ties.

Most notably, the concert will open with the famous piece Overture by US composer Leonard Bernstein, featuring the musical styles of jazz and tango.

L’Arlesienne Suite Number 2 by composer Bizet will also be played during the course of the concert.

Three pieces of work will be introduced to local audiences in Ho Chi Minh City for the first time, including Violin Concerto in D Minor by Gabriel Faure, Short Ride in a Fast Machine by John Adams, and Poeme et Danse by Vietnamese-American composer Phan Quang Phuc.

The concert will be led by Japanese conductor Honna Tetsuji and will witness the participation of pianist Vincent Adragna and violinist Chuong Vu who is the concert-master of the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra in Texas.

The event is jointly organised by the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet, Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) and the Vietnam-US Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.
