HCM City to debut “water fireworks” display at 50th anniversary celebration

Special “water fireworks” creating unique visual effects on water surface will be introduced to the public in Ho Chi Minh City for the first time during a fireworks display celebrating the 50th anniversary of Saigon – Gia Dinh officially being named after President Ho Chi Minh (July 2, 1976–2026).

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Dung from the Ho Chi Minh City Military High Command said that as of midday on July 2, technical preparations for the show had been largely completed, with all systems successfully connected and ready for operation.

According to the plan, from 21:00 to 21:15 on July 2, fireworks will be launched simultaneously at 16 locations across the city. The displays will include 2,840 high-altitude fireworks and 360 low-altitude fireworks.

Notably, the central venue at the entrance to the Saigon River Tunnel in An Khanh ward will host the city’s first-ever water fireworks performance.

Unlike conventional fireworks that are launched directly into the sky, water fireworks are fired into the water first. After absorbing water, they burst upward from the surface, creating striking light effects against the backdrop of the Saigon River.

The technology was previously showcased at the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival and received positive reviews, but this marks its debut in Ho Chi Minh City, Dung said.
