French Cinema Rendezvous to screen five films in Vietnam this July
VOV.VN -The French Cinema Rendezvous will present five French films in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City this July, spanning romantic comedy, animation, adventure and science fiction.
Organised by L'Espace, the French Institute in Vietnam, the programme will be held at Complex 01 in Hanoi and DCiné in Ho Chi Minh City.
The programme opens with Un baiser s'il vous plaît (Shall We Kiss?), directed by Emmanuel Mouret. The romantic comedy follows Émilie and Gabriel, who meet by chance during a business trip to Nantes and find themselves drawn to each other despite both being in relationships.
Comedy fans can also enjoy Seuls Two (2 Alone in Paris), in which the entire population of Paris mysteriously disappears, leaving behind only a clumsy police officer and the criminal he has pursued for years. The unlikely pair are forced to work together to uncover the mystery.
The adventure comedy Les Tribulations d'un Chinois en Chine (Tribulations of a Chinaman in China) centres on Arthur Lempereur, a billionaire bored with his seemingly perfect life. His friends devise an unusual plan involving life insurance and make him believe he is being hunted, setting off an unexpected escape that rekindles his desire to live.
The science-fiction film Immortel, ad vitam (Immortal), directed by Emmanuel Mouret, is set in New York in 2095, where humans, mutants and ancient Egyptian gods coexist. The story follows Horus, a god with only seven days left to exist, and Jill, a mysterious woman whose powers could change humanity's fate. The film is noted for its blend of live action and digital effects.
Among the featured films is Les Triplettes de Belleville (The Triplets of Belleville), one of France's best-known animated films of the early 21st century. The largely dialogue-free film follows Madame Souza and three elderly singers on a mission to rescue her grandson after he is kidnapped during the Tour de France. Acclaimed for its distinctive animation, jazz-infused music and visual storytelling, the film received two Oscar nominations for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
The French Cinema Rendezvous aims to introduce Vietnamese audiences to notable French films, from classics to contemporary works. The programme runs throughout 2026 in Vietnam as part of ongoing cultural exchanges between Vietnam and France.
