Duyen finishes in Top 3 of Miss Universe 2024’s national costume competition

The beauty pageant’s organisers announced the results of the voting for the Best National Costume segment after its grand final was organised half a month ago.

The stunning dress named “Ngoc Diep Ky Nam” was created by local designer Dang Tran Tri and selected as the national costume, which the Vietnamese contestant subsequently donned at the Miss Universe 2024.

The outfit draws inspiration from the butterfly-shaped umbrella from the Nguyen dynasty in the early 20th century, honouring the ingenuity and meticulousness of ancient artisans.

The outfit also features a Nhat Binh robe, which became a popular costume among the nobility during the Nguyen dynasty with hand-embroidered details coupled with sparkling stones.

The grand finale was organised in Mexico on November 17, attracting the participation of 125 contestants worldwide. Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark was ultimately crowned as Miss Universe 2024.

Vietnamese representative Ky Duyen was named among the Top 30 finalists. She also won the Miss Popular Vote sub-title and was named among the Top 5 finalists in both the best evening gown and the best swimsuit sub-contests.
