Border guards in southwestern region tighten control amid COVID-19 fears

VOV.VN - Border forces operating in the southwestern region have joined with local people as they put in every effort to prevent illegal entry into the country as a means of curbing the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, amid neighbouring countries seeing an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases.
The COVID-19 pandemic is currently developing in a complicated manner in Cambodia, with local authorities based in border areas close to the neighbouring country doing their best to deal with illegal entry cases whilst also preparing for the worst-cast scenario.
Border guards seek to implement measures aimed at arresting people who use fishing vessels for acts of illegal entry.
Soldiers remain on duty for 24 hours each day, thereby tightening the border as a means of controlling the potential spread of the COVID-19 pandemic among the local community.
Relevant forces work tirelessly as they strive to prevent illegal border crossings.
Up to 48 checkpoints have been set up across several major border routes in Kien Giang provincial city of Ha Tien in order to protect the country from people crossing the border illegally.
Soldiers go on duty to monitor local rivers due to a number of people attempting to use illegal river crossings to come over the border.
Border guards from neighbouring localities, including Da Nang and Binh Dinh, are mobilised as a means of supporting authorities in the southwestern region to tighten control of border crossings.
Soldiers also strive to implement a range of prevention measures aimed at raising awareness among local fishermen regarding the dangers of the COVID-19 epidemic.
Soldiers request that residents inform them anytime they detect any cases of illegal entry.
The administration of Kien Giang province has carried out plans to cope with the worst-case scenario, including building a field hospital in Ha Tien city, along with the expansion of isolation areas to combat the pandemic.
