Vietnam, China urged to boost economy, trade, investment

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh has called on both nations to augment comprehensive cooperation, soon deal with difficulties and further increase the quality of cooperation in economy-trade, investment and finance.

He made the suggestion at a meeting with Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli in Nanning city, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on September 11.

Binh congratulated China on the tremendenous achievements it has recorded in the reform and opening-up, wishing the country a successful organisation of the 19th national congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

He said he hopes that under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with the CPC General Secretary and President Xi Jinping being the core, the Chinese people will continue to reap even greater achievements in the building of a socialist country that is modern, harmonious and prosperous.

He thanked the Chinese Government for strongly supporting Vietnamese businesses and localities to attend the 14th CAEXPO and voiced his belief that the event will be successful.

The  Party and Government of Vietnam place importance on promoting cooperation and friendship with China and consider this one of the top priorities in Vietnam’s external policy.

He asked both sides to continue effectively implementing the important common perceptions the two countries’ leaders have reached and work together to prepare for high-level visits and meetings, especially a State visit to Vietnam and attendance in the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping later this year.

Vietnam and China need to boost ties in agriculture, nuclear safety, environmental protection, water resources management, climate change response and railway transport connectivity, he said.

Binh also applauded China’s “Belt and Road” initiative, adding that Vietnam is ready to promote connecting this initiative with the “Two Corridors and One Economic Belt” framework, thus benefiting both sides.

Regarding sea-related issues, the Deputy PM requested both sides comply with the agreements and the important common perceptions reached by leaders of the two Parties and countries. Accordingly, they need to have a good control of sea-related disagreements, not complicate the situation, seriously carry out the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues, fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and promote sea-related negotiation mechanisms to soon reach substantive progress.

He greatly valued ASEAN and China’s approval of a framework for a code of conduct of parties in the East Sea (COC), adding that early finalisation of the COC will help maintain peace, security and stability in the region.

At the meeting, Vice Premier Zhang affirmed that the Chinese Party and Government attach importance to bilateral ties and are together with Vietnam to maintain high-level meetings, intensify political trust, bolster substantive cooperation, strengthen people-to-people exchanges and the traditional friendship.

China will also join Vietnam in controlling disagreements and stepping up the stable, healthy and sustainable development of the countries’ comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, he noted.
