Guangdong, HCM City strengthen economic cooperation

(VOV) - HCM City wants to boost cooperation with Chinese localities, including Guangdong, to realise the US$60 billion Vietnam-China trade target set for 2015.

Le Manh Ha, Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee, was speaking at a Vietnam-China trade and economic forum held in the city on April 17.

Ha said HCM City and Guangdong province have implemented a wide range of cooperative programmes, ranging from trade and investment promotion activities to cultural and art exchanges.

HCM City always creates the best possible conditions for foreign businesses, including those from China, to seek investment opportunities and run long-term business in the city, Ha added.

He expressed his hope that the forum will help businesses from the two countries seek investment opportunities and expand cooperation in the near future.

Guo Yuanqiang, Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province (GDFTEC), said the forum is a practical initiative launched by Zhongshan and Chaozhou cities, aiming to tighten friendship between the two countries, helping businesses from the two cities meet directly with HCM City’s partners in the fields of ceramics, interior furniture, electrical household appliances and consumer products.

Vo Tan Thanh, Director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) branch in HCM City, noted Vietnam attaches much importance to strengthening economic cooperation with Guangdong province. He said the country has made great efforts to reduce trade deficit with China by fostering economic ties between localities and restructuring import-export products.

Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Guangdong hit more than US$8.8 billion last year, a year-on-year increase of 43%, of which Vietnam’s exports to the market were US$3.4 billion.
