In 2018, An Giang ranked 28th among the 63 provinces and centrally run cities with 63.65 points, up four places from the previous year. It was in sixth place among the 13 Mekong Delta localities.

Five PCI sub-indexes of the province improved last year, namely policy bias, land access, business support services, informal charges, and time costs. Meanwhile, the five others dropped, namely entry costs, transparency and access to information, proactivity of provincial leadership, legal institutions and security, and labour and training.

At a workshop on April 19, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Planning and Investment Pham Thanh Nhon said An Giang aims to raise its PCI score to 65 to become one of the 15 leading localities in 2019. It also hopes to be in the top 10 in terms of seven sub-indexes.

He said the provincial administration will direct authorities and sectors to address business obstacles. The agencies in charge of the declined sub-indexes have to work out solutions to improve those fields, while administrative procedures must continue to be reformed to help businesses.

The province will boost the transparency of information relating to state policies, land planning and administrative procedures. Authorities will also hold regular meetings with businesses to receive their feedback to make improvements, he added.
