The Vietnamese government leader commended this year's theme of the WEF ASEAN 2018 “ASEAN 4.0: Entrepreneurship and the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, a very important field for many countries. The PM suggested the WEF to build an agenda for the summit in line with ASEAN's 2018 theme "ASEAN self-reliance and creativity".

Regarding the robust growth of Vietnamese businesses, the PM suggested the WEF to facilitate Vietnamese businesses’ participation in the WEF-ASEAN in order to expand the network linking world leading groups and keep abreast with new ideas, trends and business models.

Through the event, the PM said he hopes that the WEF President would create favorable conditions for Vietnam to promote its image and role as the host country for the WEF-ASEAN 2018.

Appreciating the cooperation agreement with the WEF, Phuc underlined the importance of the WEF consultancy given to Vietnam to help it make careful preparations for the industrial revolution 4.0 under the cooperation agreement.

Borge Brende for his part spoke of his appreciation for Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements over recent years as well as Vietnam-WEF cooperation.

Praising the partnership between the WEF and Vietnam, Brende said the WEF- ASEAN 2018 is capturing the attention of countries and major corporations worldwide, proving Vietnam and ASEAN’s increasing role and attractiveness.

State and government leaders of seven countries have confirmed their attendance at the WEF-ASEAN 2018 and the organising board will invite more chairmen and chief executive officers from major corporations to the event, he said.

At a reception for the WEF President the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh asked the WEF to continue cooperating with Vietnam to capitalize on opportunities brought by the fourth industrial revolution.

Minh and his guest also co-chaired a dialogue with major Vietnamese firms about the WEF-ASEAN 2018.

Addressing the event, Deputy PM Minh stated that the WEF-ASEAN 2018 is one of the important external activities of Vietnam this year so that the country will work closely with the WEF to make thorough preparations for the event.

He also reiterated the Vietnamese government’s unwavering policy of improving the business climate to provide all possible support for businesses.

Minh described Vietnam as one of the fastest-growing and dynamic economies in Asia-Pacific, noting that the country is chosen by the WEF as the first regional country to sign a public-private partnership (PPP) deal, which shows the WEF's high regard for ties with Vietnam.

Brende said Vietnam’s successful organisation of the WEF-ASEAN 2018 will raise its role and stature in the regional bloc and affirms its active contributions to issues of shared concern of the ASEAN and the region.
