Peru praises Vietnam’s role in Asia

(VOV) - The Ministry of Foreign Relations of Peru has said the upcoming opening of its embassy in Hanoi will help boost economic-trade ties and development cooperation with Vietnam.

In a press communiqué, the Peruvian ministry said Vietnam holds an important position in Lima’s expanded foreign policy in Asia.

It said Vietnam is one of the economies with the highest growth rate in Southeast Asia and is of Peru’s particular concern in terms of investment.

Vietnamese businesses are investing in oil&gas and telecommunications in Peru.

In March 2013 the Peruvian government decided to open its embassy in Hanoi. A diplomat will work as the Peruvian Charge D’affaires in Hanoi as of August 1 to prepare for the opening of the facility.

The communiqué said Peru and Colombia will share the same building in Hanoi.

Vietnam and Peru established diplomatic ties in 1994. Their two-way trade has tripled during the past five years, reaching US$180 million in 2012.
