|National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan (R) receives Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Sengphet Houngboungnuang
At a reception in Hanoi on February 4 for Lao Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang, the NA leader congratulated the Lao diplomat on his appointment as the Lao Ambassador to Vietnam and expressed her confidence that with the capacity and a wealth of experience, the ambassador will successfully take on his great responsibility.
She affirmed Vietnam is willing to share its experience in operations of People’s Councils, particularly those of major cities and step up locality-to-locality cooperation.
Cooperation in economics, trade, investment and other fields has progressed, giving added impetus to bilateral relations, Ngan told her guest.
Ngan described 2020 as a significant year for the two countries as they are preparing for the organization of the Party Congresses at all levels, heading towards the 11th National Party Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and the 13th National Party Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), as well as the election of the ninth National Assembly of Laos and 15th National Assembly of Vietnam. Therefore, there will be a string of cooperation activities between the two Parties and nations throughout the year, she noted.
The two sides have frequently exchanged delegations and held a host of workshops to share professional knowledge and experience in implementing legislative activities and performing the task of inspecting and making decisions on major issues of each nation, she said.
The National Assembly of Vietnam will offer the best possible conditions for the Lao ambassador to fulfill his missions and act as a bridge connecting the great friendship, special solidarity and all-around cooperation between the two Parties, States and nations, the top Vietnamese legislator said.
For his part, the Lao guest said he had witnessed numerous cooperation activities between the two countries in 2019, including the celebration of the 70th anniversary of traditional day of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts in Laos (October 30, 1949). Such activities indicate the close-knit relations between Vietnam and Laos, he said.
He pledged his best efforts to further develop the bilateral great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation. He said he hopes that during his working term in Vietnam, he will continue to receive support from leaders and agencies of the Vietnamese NA.
