Ho Chi Minh City hopes for stronger relations with Xaysomboun province on the foundation of the time-honoured cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
Standing Deputy Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City’s Party Committee Vo Van Thuong made the statement during a reception for Xaysomboun Governor and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Sombath Yialiher on October 28.
The host spoke highly of Xaysomboun province’s socio-economic achievements since its establishment two years ago. He believed that the locality will gain considerable success under the leadership of Governor Sombath Yialiher.
The Lao guest said as a newly-established province, Xaysomboun lags behind other Lao localities in terms of infrastructure.
He expressed hope that Ho Chi Minh City enterprises will invest in the province, adding that Xaysomboun has potential in hydropower.
He also called on Vietnamese businesses to invest in the construction of schools, hospitals and other facilities in the province.
By separating from Vientiane, Xaysomboun province was set up on December 31, 2013, becoming the 17 th province of Laos. It covers an area of 8,500 square kilometres with a population of more than 81,800 people.
