Young Vietnamese swimmers succeed in US

Young Vietnamese swimmers have claimed glory at a winter indoor swimming competition in the US during their training session at the Bolles School in Florida.

A gold medal at the 2012 River City Swim League was bagged by Pham Thanh Nguyen after he finished at 4m 40.93s in the men’s 500-m event. Nguyen also secured a bronze medal at the men’s 200-m event at 1m 44.16s.

In the women’s 200-m event, Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won a silver, while her teammate Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen clinched a bronze.

Top Vietnamese swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc has missed a chance to take part in the swim league because of his late arrival in the US. Phuoc and other Vietnamese swimmers will participate in BSS TYR February Meet from February 10-12.

Under the guidance of Spanish coach Sergio Lopez, who won a silver medal at the 1988 Olympics, Vietnamese swimmers are hopeful of competing at the 2012 London Olympics this summer.
