Tien Minh’s lucky draw at Denmark Open 2013

(VOV) - Vietnam’s top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh, seeded No. 6 at Denmark Open 2013, will not meet rivals in the world’s top 15 in the first two rounds.

In the first round on October 16, Tien Minh will face Malaysia’s Wei Feng Chong (seeded No. 17). Recently, he beat the Malaysian rival 2-1 at Vietnam Open 2008, again 2-1 at Vietnam Open 2009 and 2-0 at Taiwan Open 2012.

If he succeeds in the coming match with Wei Feng Chong, Minh will meet the winner of a match between Hans Kristian Vittinghus (Denmark) and Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk (Thailand) in the second round.

Minh’s potential rivals would be Kenichi Tago from Japan (seeded No. 4) in the quarter-finals and Chen Long from China (seeded No. 2) in the semi-final.

In recent times, Tien Minh has clinched a bronze medal at the Japan Open championships and ranked second at the 2013 Taiwan Open Grand Prix Gold.

The tournament will be held in Odense City, Denmark, from October 15-20 as part of the Super Series Premier system. The champion will get an extra 11,000 points and receive a cash prize of US$400,000.
