The photos feature multiple topics such as migration, war, animals in the wild, and gender identity. They were selected from some 78,800 entries by nearly 4,740 photographers from 129 countries around the world.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on December 6, Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Elsbeth Akkerman said this is the third time the World Press Photo Exhibition has been organized in Vietnam, but the first time it has been held outdoors.
“They are high qualified photos which words cannot describe. Each photo shows the true face of the world we live in and makes us think a lot about it. In the world of threats and fake news, the reality of the photos cannot be underestimated,” she said about the photos.
There are also a number of side events, including a lecture about visual literacy, a presentation on the World Press Photo legacy and vision, and exhibition tours.
The World Press Photo Exhibition 2019 – Stories that Matter runs until December 15.
