Hanoi enjoys “Spring on Spratly Islands” cultural programme

(VOV) -A cultural exchange programme dubbed “Spring on Spratly Islands” was held in Hanoi on January 5 to welcome the New Year 2013.

The event was jointly organised by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Education and Communication, the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC), and Vietnam Television (VTV). It was broadcast live on VTV1 and VTV4.

Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Uong Chu Luu conveyed Happy New Year messages to civilians and soldiers living on the Spratly Islands.

He described the event as a meaningful gift, demonstrating the Party’s, State’s, and people’s love and trust in those stationed on the islands. He expressed hope the programme will reiterate the importance of seas and islands in the public’s awareness, especially in regards to national constructions and defense.

Domestic and foreign viewers were able to deepen their understanding of the islands through unique films on the ceramic national flag and the daily life of soldiers who protect the nation’s peace and happiness.

They also enjoyed famous artists’ moving songs and dances about the Spratly Islands and patriotism.

The organising board also used the programme to call for donations that will help soldiers stationed on the Spratly Islands celebrate a warmer New Year.
