Gold medal haul for Phuoc at national champs

(VOV) - Danang-born swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc has claimed four more golds in the national swimming-diving championships in Hue City on March 22, raising his championship total to 13.

Phuoc’s gold medal haul broke five national records.

His first came in the 100m mixed event with a time of 57”12, breaking his own record (57”68) set in 2010. Silver went to 15-year-old HCM City swimmer Khoi with a time of 57”58.

Phuoc won his second gold in the 100m freestyle with a time of 51”41. Pham Thanh Nguyen’s 52”59 was enough to win him the silver medal.

Phuoc’s 2’4”03 also couldn’t be matched by his competitors in the 200m butterfly final.

In the 200m relay, Phuoc and teammates Hoang Dinh Long, Nguyen Van Ty, and Pham Truong Giang finished first with a time of 1’45”.

March 22 was also a day of success for Ho Chi Minh City’s athletes, who added five more gold medals to the city’s total.

HCM City currently tops the championship medal tally with 16 gold, 18 silver and 9 bronze. Danang came in second with 13 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals.
