At a reception on October 10 in Hanoi for Paul Greenwood, ExxonMobil Vice President for Gas and Power Marketing in the project, the Deputy PM said the project is of great significance for ensuring national energy security and operating thermal power plants in the central region.
He urged the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the National Oil and Gas Group, and the US’s ExxonMobil to fast-track negotiations on the development and exploitation of the Ca Voi Xanh (Blue Whale) gas field, about 100 km east of the central coast.
Dung assured the Vietnamese Government’s commitment to offer the best possible conditions for the operation of the project in 2023.
Greenwood, in turn, highlighted the importance of the project in cooperation between ExxonMobil and Vietnam in exploiting and producing oil and gas products and put forth proposals on removing obstacles for his group and suggested Vietnam should reach a final agreement soon.
The Prime Minister has recently adopted the construction of four gas-fired power plants in the central provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai with total capacity of 3,000MW using gas from the Ca Voi Xanh field.
