Around 427,000 tons of fertilizers worth US$119 million were imported into the country in May alone. Last year’s figures were 4.2 million tons and US$1.125 billion, down 7% in volume and 21% in value.
The imported fertilizers were Urea, NPK, SA, DAP and Kali which came from China, Russia, Indonesia, Canada, Japan and some other countries.
China remains Vietnam’s key fertilizer supplier although imports from the market has dropped as from last year.
As the import of fertilizers has increased sharply, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has decided to initiate a safeguard duty investigation into DAP fertilizer imported from different countries into Vietnam.
