President Quang told reporters that during Trump’s visit to Vietnam, the two sides issued a joint statement, agreeing to further deepen the bilateral comprehensive partnership in the principle of respecting independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political system in the respective countries.

The relations between Vietnam and the US have developed in various fields in recent years such as politics-diplomacy, economics-trade, science-technology, health care, and people-to-people exchanges.
The high-level delegation exchanges, including the US visit by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in May 2017 and the first State visit to Vietnam by President Donald Trump, are important to promote the bilateral comprehensive partnership.

Vietnam and the US agreed to beef up economic-trade-investment relations for mutual benefits, minimise trade-investment disputes, and implement more effectively signed economic deals, Quang said.

The two countries will forge ahead with cooperation in science-technology, environment, climate change, humanitarian activities, human resources training, and people-to-people exchanges to enhance the bilateral comprehensive partnership for the sake of their peoples as well as peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and beyond, he added.

President Trump thanked the Vietnamese Government and people for supporting the US to search for US servicemen missing in action during the war in Vietnam.

He congratulated President Tran Dai Quang on his successful chair of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, which has freshly concluded in the central city of Da Nang.

Trump said the US committed to a free and open Indo-Pacific region where independent countries respect each other's sovereignty, adhere to the rule of law and develop responsible trade.
