Vietnamese player Nguyen Tien Minh trounced Malaysia’s Daren Liew 2-1, winning a ticket to the quarterfinals of the 2012 Yonex Open Japan badminton tournament on September 20.
In the first set, the world’s no. 27 badminton player Liew lost 14-21 to Liem.
In the second set he defeated Liem 23-21.
However, with perennial experience, skill and spirit, the Vietnamese player finished the final set with a score of 21-16 in his favour.
In the quarterfinals, Minh will meet Hu Yun (from Hong Kong, China) who has defeated Takuma (Japan) 21-12 and 21-10 in the Yonex tournament.
Previously, Tien Minh was beaten by Hu Yun in the 2012 Badminton Asia Championships and Indonesia Open tournament.
