The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry’s Environment Protection Fund plans to grant a total of VND100 billion (US$5.7 million) in low-interest loans for environmental projects this year.
In addition, it will offer another VND15 billion to other projects, after receiving more than VND160 billion from the State budget for its registered capital supplement and environmental administration, along with VND50 billion from environmental protection fees.
The fund will provide VND175 billion for 59 environmental protection projects in nearly 20 provinces and sponsor 31 programmes to help local people overcome environmental disasters.
By 2010 the fund will receive over VND500 billion (US$28.6 million) from the State budget to become a bank specializing in providing preferential loans for environmental projects.
